Policy for Premises and Security

Baby room

  • Ensure that fire exits remain unobstructed at all times.
  • Do not place babies in direct sunlight, whether for sitting or sleeping.
  • Always reinsert safety covers into electrical sockets after use.
  • Whenever possible, place crawling or walking babies in a cot for sleep.
  • Do not bring mugs containing hot liquids into the room.
  • Ensure all bottles brought into the room are clearly labelled with the baby’s name.
  • Never give babies food, bottles, or dummies that do not belong to them.

Baby changing area

  • Never leave a baby unattended on the changing mat.
  • Ensure that nappies, creams, and other personal care items are used only from the baby’s individual basket.
  • Place soiled nappies in nappy bags, tie them securely, and dispose of them in the designated bin.
  • After each nappy change, spray the changing mat with disinfectant cleaner and wipe it dry.
  • Always wash your hands thoroughly after every nappy change.

Toilet area

  • Do not allow children to play in or around the toilet area.
  • Ensure that children wash their hands thoroughly after using the toilet.
  • If you assist a child with wiping, always wear disposable gloves and wash your hands immediately afterwards.
  • Any wet areas on the floor must be mopped promptly to prevent slips and falls.
  • To prevent overcrowding, limit the number of children using the toilet area at any one time.

Classroom

  • Ensure that fire exits remain unobstructed at all times.
  • Children must always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Never allow children to use play equipment, ride-on toys, or other movable items without supervision.
  • Sweep up any spilled sand immediately to prevent slipping hazards.
  • Promptly mop up water spills during or after water play to maintain a safe environment.
  • After using an electrical socket, ensure the safety cover is securely reinserted.

Stairs

  • Ensure that all stairs are kept clear of clutter at all times.
  • Children must always be accompanied when using the stairs.
  • When climbing the stairs, children must hold onto the handrail. They should not gather or linger at the top and should be encouraged to move forward promptly.
  • When descending the stairs, an adult should lead in front of the group and remind children to hold onto the handrail at all times.

Kitchen 

  • Children must never be allowed into the kitchen area.
  • Always sterilise bottles in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Use only boiled water when preparing bottles, baby drinks, or feeds.
  • Prepare all food and bottles exactly as directed.
  • Promptly store any leftover food in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and safety.
  • Operate all electrical equipment strictly according to the provided instructions.

Outside play area

  • Always check that the environment is safe for the children, ensuring it is free from hazards such as broken glass, nettles, and other dangerous objects.
  • Ensure the gate is securely locked at all times.
  • Supervise children continuously to maintain their safety.

General

  • Never allow anyone unknown to you to take a child from the nursery. Always verify with the officer in charge to confirm that the person is an authorized collector.
  • Children must never be allowed outside unaccompanied.
  • All accidents resulting in injury to staff or children must be recorded in the accident book, which is kept in the office.
  • Any medicine administered to a child must be authorized by their parents and documented on the medicine administration form.
  • The use of inappropriate or offensive language on nursery premises is strictly prohibited.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on nursery premises.
